Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. Stress affects the mental health of a person. Causes of stress are very numerous. Different people usually have different stress triggers. Some people get stressed at their workplace. Among the things at a workstation that can lead to stressful situations are long working hours, working under dangerous conditions, and also being unhappy with the job. The other category of stress is the life stress. Under life stress, there is the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job and getting married.

The cause of someone’s stressful situation can be themselves. It is possible to stress oneself by worrying about some things. The fear of certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes can make a person worry a lot hence resulting to stress. Stress is not something that is healthy. Hence, the need to be stress free. There are proven negative health effects of stress. Irritability, a headache, fatigue, and difficulty in sleeping are the examples of the health implications of stress. The worst can happen with some of these health implications of stress. The good news is that there are ways to manage stress.

Some of these ways are as follows. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol should be avoided by avoided when a person is experiencing stress. Nicotine and caffeine are known to be stimulants. People mistake these substances for reducing the stress levels but in the real case they increase it. Despite alcohol being a depressant when consumed in large quantities, it is not an effective way of managing the stress. Getting enough sleep is one of the methods of managing stress. This is so, since lack of enough sleep is capable of causing stress. Another tip of managing stress is the utilization of the relaxation techniques. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.

The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. Exercise, therefore, can be used as a surrogate to metabolize excessive stress hormones so that one can reach a more relaxed state. Iit is not, however, necessary that the exercise be vigorous. Brisk walking in fresh air can be very helpful. A more permanent situation is the incorporation of physical activities in your daily routine.

The are several mechanisms on how exercise help to relieve stress. One of the direct stress-busting effects of exercise is that it pumps up your endorphins. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. Exercises help a person to forget about someone’s day irritations. Another way on how exercise reduces the stress levels is by improving someone’s mood. Improving the moods of a person is as a result of increased confidence, and lowering symptoms of depression.
